Open edition print, reproduced from the original
pencil drawing “Guardiagrele, Italy” by artist Nicholas Santoleri
Guardiagrele is a part of the Abruzzo region of central Italy. The town is known for its wrought iron, copper and gold works. Most of the Santoleri’s have originated from the then small town of Guardiagrele, including Nick’s grandparents. From this vantage point, Nick only drew the buildings that appeared old enough to have existed when his grandparents left this town to come to America. The town has grown quite a substantially since then.
