This fieldstone mill was built in 1793 by Michael Gunkle in an era of post-Revolutionary War development in the Great Valley area in Chester County, PA. Spring Mill was still operating into the 1930’s. The mill was placed on the National Register of Historic Sites in 1978, and restoration work was begun by the East Whiteland Township Historical Commission. The goal of the restoration is to utilize the mill as an educational resource, a museum and a demonstration mill.
