This painting depicts the Gruber Wagon Works in Reading, PA in 1996, shortly after one of the more memorable snowstorms in the eastern part of our country. Wagons were still being produced here until the 1950’s, and in 1972, Gruber Wagon Works was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1976-77 the Wagon Works was separated into four sections and moved five miles to the Berks County Heritage Center, where it was successfully rebuilt. This remains the largest relocation/restoration project ever undertaken by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
