The Fairmount Waterworks and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, both built in the neoclassical architectural style, are renowned Philadelphia landmarks. Beginning in 1815, the Waterworks provided the city with water for almost 100 years. Its innovative engineering, as well as its beautiful grounds, architecture and river view, also made it a major tourist attraction. The Art Museum, designed in the style of a Greek temple, was begun in 1919, and the first wing was open to the public in 1928. This breathtaking view from across the Schuylkill River delights residents and visitors alike. |
