The Kalmar Nyckel has been captured under sail as it cuts through the water at Lewes Harbor in the Delaware Bay. This magnificent tall ship is a replica of the original Kalmar Nyckel, a Swedish pinnace which first brought settlers to the Delaware Valley in 1638. The original ship made four round trips to the new world, more than any other sailing ship of the era. The historic Delaware Breakwater East End Lighthouse was built in 1885, and served as a beacon for ships and sailors until it was deactivated in 1996.
The original watercolor painting was commissioned by PNC Bank Delaware and reproduced as their 2006 holiday print.
This limited edition print was reproduced from the original watercolor of the same name, using the highest quality craftsmanship and printing on fine neutral pH balanced paper.
